Karigar Samarthan (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is developed and supported by JS Trust. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from users of the Karigar Samarthan mobile application, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By registering for or using Karigar Samarthan, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Who This Policy Applies To

This policy applies to artisans (karigars) who register and use the Karigar Samarthan app as sellers. Karigar Samarthan is a seller-facing application; it does not provide buyer registration or buyer accounts. If you purchase a product through our storefront website, your data as a customer is handled separately, in accordance with the storefront website’s own applicable policies.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

• • Name — provided at registration
  • Store name — provided at registration
  • Phone number — used to create your account and to verify your identity via One-Time Password (OTP)
  • UPI ID — provided if you choose to set up payment collection through the app
  • Product information — titles, descriptions, prices, categories, and photos you upload when listing products

2.2 Information collected automatically

• • Authentication data — securely processed through Firebase Authentication to verify your phone number and manage your login session
  • App usage and diagnostic data — basic technical information (such as crash reports) may be collected through Firebase Crashlytics to help us identify and fix bugs
  • Voice input — if you use voice features (such as speaking to the AI Assistant or dictating product details), your audio is temporarily processed by our speech-recognition provider (Sarvam AI) to convert it to text. We do not use voice recordings for any purpose beyond providing this feature.

2.3 Payment information

• • When you set up UPI payment collection, we store your UPI ID to enable buyers to pay you directly.
  • We do not store your bank account details, UPI PIN, or any sensitive payment credentials. Live payment processing is handled through UPI’s standard payment infrastructure; we do not have access to your UPI PIN or banking passwords at any point.
  • Transaction reference numbers for completed payments are stored to help you and us confirm that an order has been paid.

2.4 Information we do not collect

• • We do not collect your email address (the app does not use email for login).
  • We do not require or store a password (login uses phone number and OTP only).
  • We do not collect precise GPS location data.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and secure your account (via phone number + OTP verification)
• Let you list, edit, and manage your products
• Connect your product listings to our online storefront (built on WooCommerce)
• Show you incoming orders and their status
• Enable you to receive payments via UPI
• Power the AI Assistant, which uses your account, product, and order data to answer your questions and help you navigate the app (Google Gemini is used to generate these responses; Sarvam AI is used for speech-to-text and text-to-speech)
• Generate AI-assisted product descriptions and suggested categories from photos you upload
• Diagnose and fix technical problems (via crash/error reporting)
• Communicate with you regarding your account or support requests

We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising.

Karigar Samarthan relies on the following third-party services to operate. Each processes certain data on our behalf, governed by their own privacy policies in addition to this one:

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Firebase’s cloud infrastructure (Firestore and Firebase Storage) and, for product/order data, within our WooCommerce store’s database. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

• Phone-number-based authentication with OTP verification (no passwords to be compromised)
• Access to your account data is restricted to your authenticated session
• Payment credentials (UPI PIN, banking details) are never collected or stored by u.

However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and product information for as long as your account remains active. If you wish to have your account and associated data deleted, you may contact us using the details in Section 10, and we will process your request in accordance with applicable law.

7. Your Rights

Depending on applicable law (including India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Withdraw consent for optional features (such as voice input) at any time by simply not using them

8. Children’s Privacy

Karigar Samarthan is intended for use by adult artisans operating as sellers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
